Family Fun Night

Sing Along or Idol Night

Does anyone in your family sing, love music, or play an instrument? They don't have to be a pro to make a fun and entertaining evening. Before TV, radio, MP3 players, and computers people had other ways of entertaining themselves. Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favor of technological advancement, but it can also be fun to do things the old fashioned way.

Maybe this seems a little daunting for the musically less inclined, but music
is a universally enjoyable form of entertainment. It can be comical or sentimental or make you want to dance. Even if no one plays an instrument, you can stage a Karaoke or Idol night, maybe even write your own songs. Encourage the more outgoing members of your family to perform and teach the shy ones to be a good audience
or supporter.

If you don't know where to start with this, try a sing
along CD or DVD, or maybe some of your favorite songs from childhood. Singing with your children can build their confidence and help them find a new way to express themselves. My kids loved the We Sing series when they were little. (*Click on songbook images to purchase from Amazon or search for other titles).

Are you (parents) a little shy about singing & performing? I promise your babies will not judge you, however if you are truly tone deaf and don't want to pass that on as a tradition, invite a musical friend over for your family song fest. Most children are fascinated by music and how it's made. However you choose to do it I'm sure it will provide lasting memories for your children, a love for music and entertainment, and learning moments for the whole family. Just make it fun, no pressure, pure pleasure.
