Life's Not Fair

Have you heard that before, or maybe you've said it to your children? I often thought about treating my children "fairly", and sometimes they called me on it if they thought they were being treated unfairly. "Case by case" is my motto, "you get what you need", and "it all works out in the long run if you keep a good attitude".

I'll never forget the morning I asked my 10 year old son to change his shorts to pants because it was 20 degrees outside. Then he asked me why his sister could wear a skirt but he couldn't wear shorts. So I gave up and said, "Okay, both of you go ahead and freeze your legs off if you want to". I kissed them goodbye and they ran out to the bus stop. I did notice though that the next day they were both wearing long pants.

Here's another great article by Clayton Thomas on the subject of fairness. http://www.claytonpaulthomas.com/archives/545
