Last night my husband and I went on our town's Trolley Open Door Tour. This happens once a month from late spring through fall. The trolley takes people to various art galleries, museums, and other locations that have signed up for Open Door Night. Although I've known about this for several years I've never gone before.
What really surprised me was the number of families with small children who went on the tour. There are about 10 stops and you can get on or off wherever you like. The trolleys come by every 15 to 30 minutes. Many families visited the City Hall art exhibit, and the art galleries in the mill building. Families were also attracted to the See Science Center and the local historical museum. I thought to myself, 'what a great idea for a family night, I wish this was happening when my kids were young.'
Although I took my kid's to a lot of these places at
various times through out the years, there was something exciting & special about Trolley Night. The kid's clearly were enjoying the ride as much as any of the stops. They were also enjoying the public nature of the activity, chatting with various strangers on the trolley while in the security of their parent's presence, and being out about town with the adults.
Have you done something like this with your kids? Do your children like museums, art shows or art galleries? Share the kinds of family outings you've enjoyed in a comment below.
I think our daughter took our grandchildren to something similar to this :-) Big Hugs ♥
